Jan 03, 2011 · My guess is the machine you are running ping from is is a vista or windows 7 machine, and that the IP adress of that machine is 192.168.36.16. Ping under windows 7 or vista will report unreachable IP address in this way, rather than "no reply from" that you may be used to seeing.
Under linux, I think ping -b 192.168.1.255 will work (192.168.1.255 is the broadcast address for 192.168.1.*) however IIRC that doesn't work under windows.
